Position Title:    Job Coach

Reports To:     Director of Employment Services Director

Classification:     Hourly

Hours:     Part to Full-time, days/evenings/weekends/holidays as needed for site coverage

Job Summary

Employees  may be in close proximity to others at times and will need to utilize all PPE precautions if unable to maintain social distancing, to miminize exposure to Blood bourne pathogens and  infectious disease including COVID 19. The company is following all guidelines from the CDC, the state of Massachusetts and the local board of health during the Covid-19 Pandemic. 

Work sites will vary, to include any potential community site as well as within the building, which does have a factory/production area.

Job coaches will be required to drive program members, so weather and traffic conditions will vary.

Vocational staff work in conjunction with the Agency’s day Habilitation programs and Vocational staff will meet Program Members in their Day Habilitation program. Often Program Members and Staff may be engaged in stimulating activities that are noisy, crowded, and sometimes confined. Larger and quieter spaces are provided for sensory decompression.

Program Members may engage in behaviors that are harmful to themselves or others.  Staff are provided with the resources and training to de-escalate these situations safely and effectively and also additional protective equipment for increased personal protection.

Depending upon assignment, staff may be in a stationary position throughout the day, e.g., sitting or standing for long periods of time.

Appropriate dress is required, as program activities occur year-round, e.g. in heat or cold. Some Work/Volunteer sites may require professional attire.

Essential Functions:

  • Commute Program Members to and from job sites, either by vehicle or pedestrian transportation while keeping to the assigned schedule.
  • Assist each Program Member in learning the skills necessary for a successful completion of his/her job. Step-by-step teaching techniques are often required. Typically teaching techniques include modeling the steps paired with verbal instruction.
  • Document the activities and successful skill acquisition of program members using Task Analysis Sheets, Case notes, Data Sheets, Community Participation Logs, incident reports and behavor tracking as well  as sign in and sign out sheets.
  • Interfacing with employees, customers and management in employment locations is essential. Ensure that his/her Employee/Employer relationships is a beneficial one by initiating or facilitating open communication.
  • Address any social concers that may impact work performance on the job and provide role modeling to demonstrate appropriate social skills and control in the workplace.
  • Job Coaches are made aware of program members goals and objectives and will track these on individual TAs.
  • Job Coaches are responsible for entering into ETS (client payroll) for each program member they work with each day.

The qualification listed below must support the essential functions and serve as the primary criteria for selecting candidates.

Minimum Qualifications

-High School Graduate or GED preferred
-Related Work/Personal History teaching skills or working with persons with disabilities preferred
-Driver’s license preferred
-To meet all required background checks and drug testing upon hire and annually, as required by Regulatory Authorities.
-Fluent in English, exceptions may be made based on programmatic resources and availability.
-Move, position or transport up to 30 lbs

Minimum Competencies

To follow all COVID 19 Safety policies

Must be able to intervene in crisis situations with the use of physical restraint tactics as taught by this Agency and mandated by State and Federal Agencies.

To effectively communicate any concerns to Supervisor in a timely and professional manner

Must always exhibit conflict resolution skills and the ability to remain calm and focused.

Ability to position self to assist with individual’s physical needs, including transfers, lifts, and the use of gait belts, etc.

Ability to use a computer or other electronic device to access agency email and complete job duties.

To successfully obtain all necessary training as required. Training may include, but is not limited to: Defensive Driving, Agency Orientation, Safety Plan & Evacuation, Human Rights, Ethics, CPR & First Aid, PABC, etc.
