Job Summary
The RN ensures that all appropriate medical supports are given to Program Participants and that all Staff are properly trained in related medical conditions, symptoms and treatments. Program Member’s abilities range from those that always need full physical assistance and supervision to those who live independently in the community.
The RN may travel to other program sites for coverage.
Environment
This is an office based position, with time spent on the floor among program staff and participants also expected.
Day Habilitations are welcoming and inviting spaces, and the agency supports individuals of all communication abilities.
Often Program Members and Staff may be engaged in stimulating activities that are noisy, crowded, and sometimes confined. Larger and quieter spaces are provided for sensory decompression.
Program Members may engage in behaviors that are harmful to themselves or others. Staff are provided with the resources and training to de-escalate these situations safely and effectively and also additional protective equipment for increased personal protection.
Depending upon assignment, staff may be in a stationary position throughout the day, e.g., sitting or standing for long periods of time.
Employees may be in close proximity to others at times and will need to utilize all PPE precautions if unable to maintain social distancing, to miminize exposure to Blood bourne pathogens and infectious disease including COVID 19. The company is following all guidelines from the CDC, the state of Massachusetts and the local board of health during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Essential Functions
- Monitor and document the medical, dietary, medicinal distribution and psychological needs of each Program Member.
- Oversee and communicate generally accepted methods of proper nutrition and hygiene to Program Members.
- Document and file Agency and Regulatory required records regarding the medical status and administered treatments of Program Members.
- Educate staff members of each individual’s specific dietary needs, medications and their side effects, symptoms to watch for, etc.
- Monitor and document Program Members’ vital signs at least monthly (weight, blood pressure, blood glucose levels, etc.), or as required.
- Attend meetings as directed by Supervisor
- Maintain accurate and concise records of information pertaining to the care of each Program Member, and ensure that these records meet the standards set forth by Funding Agencies.
- Monitor each individual for any condition that may pose a health risk to other Program Members or staff and communicate the possible symptoms, treatments and ways to avoid transmission to all families and Agency Staff who may be potentially affected.
Essential Duties Under Director of Health Care Services
- Coordinate vacation time to ensure Nursing coverage is maintained at program sites
- Attend regularly scheduled Nursing Meetings
- Seek out the Director of Helath Care as a resource related to Nursing questions
The qualification listed below must support the essential functions and serve as the primary criteria for selecting candidates.
Minimum Qualifications
Registered Nurse, currently licensed in Massachusetts.
Professional Liability Insurance
At least 1 year’s nursing experience in a community-based setting
The successful completion of CEU courses necessary to maintain Nursing License is required.
Meet all background requirements of funding agencies ( CORI check, SORI, Fingerprint screening)
Valid Driver’s license
Minimum Competencies

The ability to effectively time-manage and organize priorities is essential.
Must be computer literate and have good written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to intervene in crisis situations with the use of physical restraint tactics as taught by this Agency and mandated by State and Federal Agencies.

To safely pass medications, based upon Agency protocol
To effectively communicate any concerns to Supervisor in a timely and professional manner

To successfully obtain all necessary training as required.
