Position Title: Driver

Hours: Part-time, AM (Hours between 6 am-9 am) and/or PM (Hours between 2 pm-5 pm)
Job Summary
The role of this position is to transport individuals from their residence to their specified Day Program in the morning and/or from the Day Program to their residence in the afternoon in a safe and timely manner using a variety of vehicles dependent upon individual needs.
Environment
Driving is required in all types of weather conditions, e.g. in snow and rain, a delay or cancellation may occur in extreme weather conditions to ensure the safety of both the staff and Program Members.
Program Members may engage in behaviors that are distracting and/or harmful to themselves or others during the commute, monitors are placed on certain van runs for mediation and behavioral support when necessary.
Drivers may be in close proximity to others at times and will need to utilize all PPE precautions if unable to maintain social distancing, to minimize exposure to Blood borne pathogens and infectious disease including COVID 19. The company is following all guidelines from the CDC, the state of Massachusetts and the local board of health during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Some Program Members may require additional supports including but not limited to wheelchair tie downs, seat belt locks, and seat covers.
Drivers may remain in a stationary position for up to three hours.
Essential Functions
- Operate a variety of vehicles in a safe and timely manner regardless of inclement weather and road conditions and in accordance with State laws.
- Refuels vehicle as necessary using recommended form of payment and at preferred location.
- Promptly removes trash from vehicle after each use and notifies appropriate party if additional cleaning is required.
- Completes all documentation necessary for tracking purposes, such as mileage sheets, attendance, etc.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the MART contract, CT regulations, Agency driving guidelines and general transportation procedures after receiving training.
- Facilitates a positive relationship with HCP’s, parents, etc. of the individuals that are transported.
- Relays information to the department about behaviors, individual needs, and any and all issues associated with the transport.
- Notifies Director of Transportation with advanced notice if unable to fulfill van run.
The qualification listed below must support the essential functions and serve as the primary criteria for selecting candidates.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid Driver’s license of not less than three (3) years for MART drivers and two (2) years for Agency/CT drivers.
- A driving record with not more than three (3) infractions within the past three years.
- To meet all required background checks and drug testing upon hire and annually, as required by Regulatory Authorities.
- Fluent in English required.
Minimum Competencies
To follow all safety protocols related to COVID 19
A Comprehensive understanding of State and Federal laws pertaining to the operation of motor vehicles in both Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Good navigational ability and the ability to operate standard navigational tools.
Must always exhibit conflict resolution skills and the ability to remain calm and focused.
Must have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact with both peers and individuals in a respectful and positive manner.
Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment.
Ability to position self to assist with individual’s physical needs, including transfers and lifts.
Ability to use a computer or other electronic device to access agency email and complete job duties.
Move, position or transport up to 25 lbs.
